Talking to Nate

I'm so grateful I got to talk to Nate today, aka Elder Garlick for a whole 20 minutes! He was at the Dallas airport waiting to connect for his flight to Germany, and he was able to call me, my parents, and leave voice mails on my sister's phones (Ali and Makell changed their voicemail to say hi to Nate---how smart is that?!) He is doing so well and his German is amazing! He seriously already sounds fluent. He had a great time in the MTC and I can't believe those 9 weeks are over. We had a great convo, and then I pulled myself together and went to class.

Nate and I are 18 months apart in age and we've been super close all of our lives. And yes, sometimes I boss him around. But the memories are endless! We've worked together at Texas A&M for which seems like forever, and have so many great memories and crazy experiences there dealing with plants and even once, a mouse, and very rotten apples. We've flown to Philadelphia together and spoke in British accents the entire time at the airport. We've also flown together to New Jersey to visit friends back in high school and discovered New York City for the first time. We've laughed our heads off watching everyone around us puke on a ferry ride to an island in Puerto Rico. We've made the drive from Texas to Utah together in a shaking car and we've made fudge at midnight---on a school night. We drove to early morning seminary together in high school and I had to race out the door to be sure we left at exactly 6:37 so we could get there on time and to keep Nate happy. And, during high school I can't even count how many times I was asked: "are you Nate Garlick's sister?" He was my claim to fame, mr. homecoming king.

He is quite the guy, and I miss him so much! Yeah, I'm the oldest and boss him around big-time, but really he is the one who teaches me. I'm grateful he's my brother. I'm also grateful for his example and for his enthusiasm to serve the Lord! Watch out Germany! Elder Garlick is about to help change lives through the gospel of Jesus Christ. http://mormon.org/
